The wet performance score is a new thing that tire manufacturers are trying to achieve. The hydroplaning resistance, wet traction, and steering response all influence this new grading system.
The hydroplaning resistance is measured by the hydroplane depth test and the dynamic aquaplaning test, which measures how much water can be accumulated on the tire's surface before hydroplaning occurs.
Wet traction estimates the level of grip on wet pavement. Tread design with deep grooves dramatically improves confidence when driving in the rain as they channel the water out much better.
The vehicle's steering response largely depends on the tread depth, tire width, air pressure, and aspect ratio. Wide high-performance tires are equipped with a continuous center rib providing instant steering response.
Dry Perfomance
Tires with good dry performance should be able to perform smoothly and safely, even when cornering aggressively.
A dynamic cornering test is often used to assess cornering stability under dry conditions.

Tire size may be indicated in two formats:
– metric (P255/45R18 103H)
– high flotation (30x9.5 R15 104 F C)
In the metric system, P - stands for the passenger vehicles (LT - for Light Trucks, ST - Special Trailer) with a width of 255 millimeters, aspect ratio (sidewall height) equal to 45% of the tire height. R means it is radially constructed with a diameter of 18 inches. 103 denotes the tire's load index and H determines the speed rating.
In the high flotation system, the first number (30) is the overall diameter of the tire, the second number (9.5) is the width in inches.
